Our History

GRAFCO SACCO started in 1993 as a self-help group consisting of 30 people in a location called Gitithia in Kiambu County. Its aim was to initiate community based income generating projects and activities in order to improve the members’ economic status. These activities included farming, making soap, and building water tanks, solid building blocks, and roofing tiles.

Valuable capacity building support was received in the early formative and growth years from National Council of Churches in Kenya (NCCK) and from a US-based private nonprofit development organization known as Agriculture Cooperative Development International and Volunteers in Overseas Co-operative Assistance (ACDIVOCA). Currently, the SACCO works together with Partners Worldwide Organization which is a dynamic global institution with an aim to affect positive change in the lives of families, employees and the market place in general.

In the year 2011, GRAFCO was registered as a savings and Credit Co-operative Society Limited by the Ministry of Co-operatives and Marketing. Its head office is in Limuru Town K-Unity/Ushirika Centre. GRAFCO SACCO has since expanded its network from the initial 30 members in 1993 to over 3000 members in 2012. Its branch network is composed of nine branches in the country, namely: Kabete branch, Kimende branch, Thika branch, Naivasha branch, Gilgil branch, Limuru/Nyambari branch, Kigumo branch, Magumu branch, and Nairobi East branch. Our main goal is to reduce poverty through agricultural and business development services.
